Cheers to all the Partners in your Health!
I am all about confidence; it makes me sad when people don’t shine like they are meant to. It is a part of my motivation for The Posture Project as I understand how important posture is to support us and our purpose. Too many dreams and visions are closed in by rounded shoulders and down cast eyes.
Personally, I don’t want to live small, I want to be able to serve many people. However, sometimes I realize that to serve best, I must know my limitations. I think this is a hard lesson for those of us in health care. We really want to help you and we feel some sense of responsibility for your outcome.
What we need to realize is that we may excel at some skills; diagnosing, adjusting, finding muscle imbalances, relaxation, connecting with patients, and we should proudly own that but refer when we know there is someone else who excels where we are not as strong. We might relate to and create a healing environment for some types of people and not others. Again, helping to find someone you are more comfortable with may serve you better. We may have taught you all we know and pass you on for more learning.
It is my opinion that any practitioners who says they and their practise, treatment or medicine can treat everything and everyone is not putting their patient as the priority.
I am so grateful for the team of skilled practitioners I have to refer to in my community. So, cheers to my patient’s “partners in health”: from my fellow chiropractor whom I have so much respect for, to the brilliant physiotherapist to the MD who both teaches me and learns from me, to the wise acupuncturist to the compassionate massage therapist, to the astute natural health doctor, to the team playing pedorthist and podiatrist, to the genuine yoga instructor to the passionate kinesiologist and personal trainer.
Together we shine brighter than we do alone. Dr. Meghan Walker is a ND who I follow on twitter. She has a great tag line, “when people are well they can change the world”. We help you do that, we shine so you can.
